Curriculum

An end-to-end RNA-Seq workflow in Galaxy

Seven modules, taught in the order you would run a real analysis. Everything runs in Galaxy, a web-based platform, so no coding is required.

01

Introduction to next-generation sequencing

Sequencing platforms, RNA-Seq experiment design, and the file formats you will work with. Tool: Galaxy.

02

Quality control and read preprocessing

Assess read quality, then trim adapters and low-quality bases before analysis. Tools: FastQC, MultiQC, Cutadapt, Trimmomatic.

03

Read alignment and mapping

Map reads to a reference genome and evaluate alignment quality. Tools: HISAT2, STAR.

04

Gene quantification

Count reads per gene to build an expression matrix.

05

Differential expression analysis

Normalize counts and identify genes that change between conditions. Tool: DESeq2.

06

Visualization and exploratory analysis

PCA, heatmaps and volcano plots to explore and present your results.

07

Functional and pathway enrichment

Interpret gene lists through GO terms and biological pathways.

FAQ

Course questions

Do I need coding experience or prerequisites?

No coding is needed: the whole workflow runs in Galaxy, a web-based platform. A basic understanding of bioinformatics is expected.

What will I need on my computer?

A computer running Windows 10/11, macOS or Linux, with a reliable internet connection. Galaxy and Google Meet both run in your web browser.

What if I miss a live session?

Every session is recorded, and you get access to the recordings.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes. The certificate is awarded on completing the course assignment.

How do I pay and register?

Pay the fee for your category first (UPI, bank transfer, card or PayPal), then fill in the registration form with your transaction ID, payment screenshot and category ID. See Fees and how to enroll. For help, email info@cbirt.net or message us on WhatsApp.
