    About the Department
    North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is a dynamic community dedicated to developing veterinarians and veterinary scientists through advancing animal and human health from cellular through ecosystem levels. With the graduation of its first class in 1985, the CVM is one of the younger veterinary programs in the country. Despite its relative youth, the
    College has gained international recognition on the strength of its teaching, research, engagement, and patient care efforts and is ranked 3rd among the nation’s 28 colleges of veterinary medicine in the most recent U.S. News & World Report survey. Located on 180 acres near downtown Raleigh, the College encompasses 20 buildings on the main Centennial Biomedical Campus. In addition to the four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, the College offers Masters and Doctoral degrees. Faculty and students work across disciplines, employing cutting edge technologies in both basic and applied research in human and veterinary medicine.

    The CVM Office of the Associate Dean for Research provides support to the faculty and their sponsored research, to provide quality proposal preparation to ensure financial compliance and management, to assist the University and principal investigators to manage intellectual properties, to enable the departments to obtain the necessary financial support for graduate student researchers, to manage post award activities and to enable sponsors to expeditiously and satisfactorily do business with the College and University, and to minimize the University’s legal risk exposure in research and service agreements and activities. Furthermore, the Office of the Associate Dean for Research functions as the main contact point between the faculty and the university research administration (ex. Office of Research Innovation and Economic Development, and Contracts and Grants). Thus, the primary function of the Office of the Associate Dean for Research is to oversee and enhance the research program within the College. This office provides the research infrastructure and support, as well as comprehensive support for faculty and emerging scholars with both proposal and award management.

    Essential Job Duties
    Primary duties of the Research Associate include, but are not limited to the following
    • Assisting with project oversight.
    • Assisting with quantitative data analysis.
    • Taking the lead and assist in the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
    • Taking the lead and assist in the preparation of presentations to share the project’s research in local, national, and international meetings.
    Other Responsibilities
    Perform other related duties as assigned.
    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience
    A PhD degree in related field (biostatistics, statistics, computer science, bioinformatics, engineering, etc.).
    Other Required Qualifications
    • Strong quantitative background and/or computational genomics experiences (high-throughput sequencing analysis, etc.).
    • Strong programming skills (R & Python).
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience with canine, feline or equine genomics.
    • Strong background in human genetics and statistics, with knowledge of genomewide methods, including GWAS and WGS analysis; and comfort with bioinformatics.
