    Job Description

    The Post-Doctoral Research Associate will leverage turfgrass genetics and genomes to conduct independent research in turfgrass biotic and abiotic stress resistance. The primary focus will be to design and conduct experiments that explain the roles of genes and genetic pathways important for conditional responses in turfgrasses. The work will involve analysis of high throughput sequencing data sets, laboratory molecular genetics research, and field-based plant and experiment management. The primary research goal is to develop and test resources that contribute to turfgrass germplasm and cultivar development pipelines. The incumbent will additionally assist with the turfgrass genetics program management and mentor staff and students. The successful candidate is expected to publish research in peer-reviewed journals and participate in scientific meetings and other appropriate professional activities. Interest and experience with computational biology methods, field and lab-based genetics research, and grass genetics is preferred.

    The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be a member of the Amundsen lab (https://agronomy.unl.edu/amundsen) of the UNL Agronomy and Horticulture Department and stationed at the USDA-ARS in Beltsville, MD.     Minimum Required Qualifications

    • PhD required in Agronomy, Bioinformatics, Horticulture, Turfgrass Sciences, or related field.
    • Demonstrated experience working with DNA and RNA extraction and analysis.
    • Documented evidence of working both independently and as a member of a team.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in high-performance cluster computing environments.
    • Past work experiences with turfgrasses and turfgrass genomes.
    • Knowledge of polyploid genetics in grasses.
