    POSITION PURPOSE:

    • The Data Science Manager role focuses on leading an innovative team of data scientists working at the intersection of simulation, optimization, and machine learning to develop new data science tools that help automatize and orchestrate decisions supporting various functions of Bayer Crop Science organization.
    • Participate of the Extended Leadership team of Crop Science – Decision Science

    YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Direct supervision of and career development for growing team of 3-6 Data Scientists (contractors) and developing technical leadership layer within the team.
    • Create and execute a multi-year program targeted at bringing advanced analytics to enhance decisions in optimization and simulation space across Bayer Crop Science. Leading the development all the way from discovery, development of high performing, highly scalable models, validation, and deployment of analytic models and related enabling technologies, execution of in-field and in-lab POCs and pilots in the optimization and simulation space.
    • Engage with domain experts to define requirements for data science solutions, define and develop alternative approaches, training data creation and curation, model creation, documentation and validation, partner with the Science Scale and Data Asset teams to deploy these models globally across different crops; Communicate the impact of the analytics on the commercial space with peers and leadership
      Stay on the cutting edge of technology in the space of new Operations Research, Simulation, and ML/AI methodologies running in the cloud and edge computing, data and software engineering and their applicability to Bayer Crop Science.
    • Collaborate with Industry and Academia on various research topics. Participate in evaluation of select third party technologies and provide recommendations for future technical strategies.
    • Ensure team adherence to best practices as defined by Data Science Center of Excellence, including but not limited to agile/scrum, phased project advancements, code documentation and review, information security, intellectual property documentation
    • Partner with teams across the enterprise to deploy models to production, including production ready code, data I/O, stakeholder engagement and training, long term plans for support and monitoring sustainable performance
    • Manage annual expense budget of $1-2M
      Participate and Lead CS Decision Science – Operations Research & Simulation Technical

    WHO YOU ARE:

    • PhD in a Quantitative discipline (Engineering, Physics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, bioinformatics, econometrics)
    • 3+ years of experience managing technical teams/projects, supervising their work, and coaching them on career development
    • A breadth of statistical and analytical techniques
    • 5+ years experience of applying ML technologies to drive business outcomes
    • Leading and influencing multidisciplinary teams
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Cross-Industry experience in customer analytics
    • Familiarity with agriculture industry a plus
