    Job Summary

    The Ahituv Lab at UCSF is looking for an enthusiastic Bioinformatics Programmer to work on genomic datasets. Expertise should include experience in large-scale data analysis with specific expertise in analysis of genomic data and preference will be given to candidates who are skillful and who can work with Python and Bash. Experience with cloud computing is also preferred.

    The work of the Ahituv Lab is carried out at UC San Francisco, the leading university exclusively focused on health. We are in the ideal place to connect our genetic findings to the clinic. The lab is part of the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences, a joint department of the UCSF School of Pharmacy and the UCSF School of Medicine, and is a member of the UCSF Institute for Human Genetics, which serves as the hub for all genetics activities at UCSF.

    Department Description

    The Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences reports to both the School of Medicine and the School of Pharmacy. Its faculty perform high-quality basic, translational and clinical research in the fields of drug development, pharmacogenomics, therapeutic engineering and computational biology. This research encompasses traditional research in wet labs, computational and systems analyses and engineering and micro-fabrication development which lead to translational advances, clinical trials and community engagement. The department educates PharmDs, MDs, Masters’ in Translational Medicine and PhDs in Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in biological science, computer science, bioinformatics or related area and minimum one year of experience or equivalent combination of experience / training.
    • Working knowledge of bioinformatics methods and data structures.
    • Working knowledge of applications programming and web development.
    • Working knowledge of databases.
    • Working knowledge of modern biology and applicable field of research.
    • Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.
    • Self motivated, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s Degree in Bioinformatics
    • Interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
    • Working knowledge of application and data security concepts.
